The 9th Session of Islamic Conference of Tourism Ministers (ICTM) was held on 21-23 December 2015 in Niamey, Niger. The Ministers of Tourism of OIC Member Countries and all OIC Institutions pursuant to the resolution of the 8th Session of ICTM attended the meeting.
The first two-day of the meeting were devoted to the senior experts meeting in which all the technical discussions, presentations and sessions were completed. In working session I, the OIC General Secretariat and other OIC institutions presented their reports. In this session, SESRIC also made a presentation on its report “International Tourism in the OIC Countries: Prospects and Challenges 2015”. In working session II, OIC City of Tourism Award was considered. Both the nominee cities and selection criteria were reviewed. In the second half of the working session II, SESRIC made a presentation on the State of Islamic Tourism in the OIC member countries. In working Session III, Republic of Turkey, as the coordinator on Tourism Occupational Skill Standards (TOSS), made an intervention and shared the experience of Turkey in this field with the participants.
During the second day of the meeting, working session IV took place in which the results of selection committee meeting on the OIC City of Tourism Award were adopted by the senior experts. Moreover, the report of the senior experts meeting and draft resolutions of the conference were reviewed and adopted. The Ministerial Session of ICTM took place during the third day. The third day of ICTM started with a plenary session in which the President of Niger and the OIC Secretary General delivered their speeches. After the plenary session, the Ministerial Session took place which adopted the report and resolutions of the Conference along with an Executive Programme for the Development of Tourism in the OIC member countries. According to the results of the selection committee, the Ministerial Session adopted Madina al-Munawarra (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia) and Tabriz (Islamic Republic of Iran) as the OIC City of Tourism for 2017 and 2018, respectively. It was also decided that the tenth session of ICTM will take place in Bangladesh in 2017.
