Technical Mission on ‘Mining, Manufacturing and Construction Statistics’ in Malaysia

In accordance with its 2017 Annual Work Plan and within the framework of Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme, SESRIC will organise the Technical Mission on ‘Mining, Manufacturing and Construction Statistics’ at the Department of Statistics (DoS) of Malaysia on 13-15 December 2017.

The Training Course will be conducted by Mr. Ahmed Fathy Ahmed ABDELHAMID, National Accountant at the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) of Arab Republic of Egypt, with the participation of relevant officials of the DoS.

As defined in the Classification of Statistical Activities (CSA Rev. 1 - October 2009; http://goo.gl/olg3Tz); Household surveys includes statistics on specific industrial activities, e.g. steel, shipbuilding, and on construction, trade in specific products related to mining, manufacturing and construction.

The Technical Mission on ‘Mining, Manufacturing and Construction Statistics’ will include discussion activities with a focus on the following topics:

  • Scope and Role of IPI/Construction Production (Volume) Index,
  • Concepts and Uses of the IPI/Construction Production (Volume) Index,
  • Sources of Data for IPI/Construction Production (Volume) Index,
  • Statistical Units, Classifications and Business Registers,
  • Price and Volume Measures,
  • Methods to obtain Industrial Production & Construction Production Volumes,
  • Index Compilation,
  • Weights for Compilation of IPI and Construction Production (Volume) Index,
  • Rebasing & Chain-linking for IPI and Construction Production (Volume) Index,
  • Compilation issues,
  • Seasonal Adjustment & Benchmarking principles,
  • Economic Analyses on Chain-Linking Indices of IPI & Construction Production (Volume) Index, and
  • Publication
